Description: This file is a digital geospatial Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) ArcGIS polygon feature class of 1994 judicial subcircuits for Cook County, Illinois. The data are stored in an ESRI ArcGIS Version 9.2 geodatabase. This judicial subcircuits feature class interprets the location and describes the boundaries of all judicial subcircuits completely or partially located within Cook County, Illinois. Judicial subcircuits in Cook County, Illinois are the 15 areas in which judges are elected to office. Three judicial subcircuits are located entirely within the City of Chicago (subcircuits 5, 6, & 8) and four judicial subcircuits are located entirely in the County outside of the corporate limits of the City of Chicago (4, 12, 13, & 15). Eight judicial subcircuits have territory in both the City of Chicago and the outer County (1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 11, & 14). Attribution for this feature class includes a judicial subcircuit identifier. This feature class is current as of June 2010. This dataset is projected using the Transverse Mercator map projection. The grid coordinate system used is the Illinois State Plane Coordinate System (Zone Number 1201), NAD83 with ground coordinates expressed in U.S. Survey Feet.

Data is stored as polygon feature classes, and each is saved to an ESRI ArcGIS Version 9.2 geodatabase. The feature dataset contains two feature classes which describe the following features: State Representative District - Lower/House and State Senate District - Upper/Senate. 1) State Representative District (Lower/House) feature class The State Representative District (Lower/House) feature class interprets the location and describes the boundaries of all Representative Districts within Cook County, Illinois. The 59 Representative Districts of Cook County are the areas from which members are elected to state legislatures. The Representative Districts embody the lower (house) chambers of the state legislature. Attribution for this feature class includes a Representative District identifier. This feature class is current as of 2010. 2) State Senate District (Upper/Senate) feature class The State Senate District (Upper/Senate) feature class interprets the location and describes the boundaries of all Senate Districts within Cook County, Illinois. The 31 Senate Districts of Cook County are the areas from which members are elected to state legislatures. The Senate Districts embody the upper (senate) chambers of the state legislature. Attribution for this feature class includes a Senate District identifier. This feature class is current as of 2010. This feature dataset is projected using the Transverse Mercator map projection. All services, information and court records are provided with courtesy and cost efficiency.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN STYLE="font-weight:bold;">Mandates and Key Activities</SPAN></P><UL><LI><P><SPAN>Mandated by Illinois Fine and Fee Statutes to collect and disburse all filing fees and fines for the Circuit Court (705 ILCS 105/27.2A) and is governed by the Illinois Clerks of Court Act (705.ILCS 105).</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Services more than 400 judges who hear traffic, civil, criminal, juvenile, and all other types of cases originating in Chicago and Suburban Cook County.</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Deploys electronic tools such as document imaging and e-filing mechanisms to enable the Clerk’s Office to elevate employee effectiveness, proficiency and improvement in customer service.</SPAN></P></LI><LI><P><SPAN>Partners with the Chief Judge to deploy a touch screen interface allowing judges to enter court orders electronically in the implementation of the Interactive Orders System (IOS).</SPAN></P></LI></UL><P><SPAN STYLE="font-weight:bold;">History of GIS Feature Development</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The GIS feature was first developed in 2012 by the Cook County GIS Department under guidance of the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Circuit Court provided a document called the </SPAN><SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;">Circuit Court of Cook County Directory</SPAN><SPAN> which described the municipalities and townships served by each County Courthouse. Cook County GIS then merged existing municipal and township boundaries to create accurate boundaries of the six Circuit Court Municipal Districts.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
