Description: This layer contains polygons representing land that is under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission, being designated either as a Nature Preserve, Nature Preserve buffer, or Land & Water Reserve, lying within Cook County, IL. For consistency with other themes in common use, the polygons were derived from property lines provided in geodatabase format by Cook County's Department of Geographic Information Systems. As such, the actual boundaries of the sites vary slightly from the GIS polygons. In addition, although the legal descriptions of the property dedicated as some form of Preserve or Reserve often include land that has been taken for a public roadway, for the purpose of this theme the boundaries of the easement are placed at the edge of the right-of-way, again, so that the polygons would conform to Cook County GIS property lines.
The table contains the name of the Preserve or Reserve, the type of protection it falls under, the grantor of the dedication, the date of dedication and the PIN numbers of the affected property, the size of the site, its current owner(s), and the document number or numbers assigned by the Cook County Recorder of Deeds office for the legal document granting the dedication. Each Preserve or Reserve also contains a 'Notes' field which describes how the acreage was calculated and includes any necessary additional information on the site, as well as identification numbers as assigned by the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission.
