This file is a digital geospatial Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) ArcGIS polygon feature class of the tile index for Cook County, Illinois. Each tile is 2,500' on a side, and covers an area of 6,250,000 square feet or 143 acres. There are a total of 5,347 tiles, and each tile represents the boundary or extent of each ortho image. This dataset includes a coordinate based tile identification number, a delivery area number, and a project tile category. The delivery area numbers and project tile attributes are a proprietary classification that are unique to this project. This dataset is stored within an ArcGIS 10.8 geodatabase. This dataset is projected using the Transverse Mercator map projection. The grid coordinate system used is the Illinois State Plane Coordinate System, East Zone (Zone Number Zone 3776, FIPS 1201), NAD83(2011) (horizontal datum), with ground coordinates expressed in U.S. Survey Feet.
This data set was created to serve as part of a standard database for virtually all geospatial applications in Cook County, and is intended to support general location, planning, and cartography projects, as well as general inventory and asset management, Census analysis and mapping, and geocoding by address. The intended purpose of this Tile Index is to aid in the location of the relevant ortho image that corresponds spatially with a particular polygon in the Tile Index.

This tile index provides 100 percent geographical coverage of Cook County, Illinois.
Due to repeated inspection, the accuracy of the attributes in this dataset is assessed to be excellent.
The minimum and maximum easting (x) and northing (y) coordinates of the northeast Illinois region boundary were established and rounded to the nearest one thousandth. A grid array (2,500' x 2'500') was then generated using the minimum x and y coordinates, to fully cover the region. Any squares (tiles) that did not intersect or were not contained within the region were deleted. 5,347 tiles were established, and the tiles were named using a concatenation of the second through fourth digits of the X and Y coordinates of the southwestern most point of the tile, creating an eight digit string.
